Joseph Calloway is a graduate of Albany State University, located in Albany, Georgia. He graduated in 1975, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Health, Physical Education and Drivers Education.

Joe began his work in the YMCA at the Walnut Hills Branch in 1977, as the Physical/Program Director. During that time he was selected by the YMCA of the USA to be the National Field representative for the newly formed YBA basketball program for youth throughout the Midwest. Joe spent 9 years at the Walnut Hills YMCA before moving to the Central Parkway Branch in 1985. There he was the Sr. physical Director until 1990. He was also honored as a Black Achiever in 1990. Also, in 1990 while at the Central Parkway YMCA, Joe obtained his physical fitness certification from Kent State University.

In the Fall of 1990, Joe was promoted to Executive Director of the West End Branch YMCA. During the 16 years Joe spent at the West End YMCA he accomplished many things such as, graduating from the YMCA’s Executive Development School, being named Executive of the year by his peers for the Midwest region of YMCA’s, and receiving many other city and community honors.

In 2000 Joe led his volunteers and staff through the formation and building of a $6,000,000 dollar YMCA. The new Carl H. Lindner YMCA was in partnership with the Cincinnati College Preparatory Academy. The new YMCA opened in June 2006 and is currently fully operational.

Joe believes, just as others believe, that, “every kid deserves a good education and a YMCA”, regardless of the community that they are from.
